Christmas Movies + Netflix Giveaway

Disclosure: Iā€™m a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam which means that they pay for the streaming service in exchange for me posting once a month about the service. All opinions are my own.

Years ago, a few years before I met my husband Chris, I stopped watching animated movies. It wasn’t because I didn’t like them. I did. After all, I went to the theater and watched The IncrediblesFinding Nemo, and Shrek. I stopped going to see animated movies because I hoped I would be a mom someday. Everyone told me that once you had kids, you would have to watch the movies a million times (they weren’t exaggerating!). I decided that I would catch up with animated movies at that time, and, if I didn’t have kids, then I would catch up on what I missed later.

Netflix Giveaway!!Because of my decision to not see animated films, I missed quite a few movies that came out and were popular; movies like Rio, The Princess and The Frog, Ice Age, Ratatouille, Happy Feet, and Madagascar. Now that I have two little girls, we watch a lot of animated films. I have a small, but growing, collection of DVDs and Netflix streaming. On Netflix, my girls have loved watching the movies Turbo, The Aristocats, and A Turtle’s Tale. I love knowing that there is something other than our Frozen DVD to watch.

With Christmas quickly approaching, we watch holiday specials. By far, my three-year-old’s favorite is Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas. We’ve already watched it a million times (okay, i might be exaggerating….slightly). What I’m loving most are the variety of Christmas programs on Netflix this year for my girls to watch and enjoy, like Mickey Mouse Once Upon a Christmas, Mumfie’s White Christmas, In Search of Santa, Veggie Tales: Saint Nicholas, and Happy Holidays from Madagascar.

While Netflix doesn’t have Madagascar on their list of movies, I can show the girls a Christmas special for them. Even more exciting, for me, is that Netflix has an original Madagascar series starting on December 19, All Hail King Julien! My girls will get to watch this animated series that I’m sure they’ll love! (And it won’t be the usual shows we watch on Disney, Jr. every dang day!)

As for me, I’ve enjoyed watching the animated Christmas shows (although by the third or fourth time I tune out) with my girls. But I do look forward to spending my evenings, as they sleep, watching the Christmas movies I love on Netflix, like White Christmas and Love Actually, as well as some cheesy made-for-TV Christmas movies.

  1. I am seriously addicted to “a christmas carol”.I wwould love to give my dad a leg lamp for the front window but mom forbids it. Elf would be a second choice

  2. My favorite Christmas movie for years was White Christmas, until I finally saw Love Actually. Love it! Lucas’s favorite animated movie has been A Wish for Wings that Work for the past 4-5 years. Starts in October, and usually watches it a few times a week til mid-February. Good thing I like it too! (It’s an animated Bill ‘n Opus special, I dont know if it ever aired on tv or not.)

  3. “White Christmas” is my all-time favorite movie, and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” is my all-time favorite Christmas show. šŸ™‚

  4. I love Scrooged, which Netflix does have. Rosie’s favorite animated movie is Robin Hood, go ahead and try to get that tune out of your head now

  5. My favorite Christmas movie is, well I think it’s a tie, between Christmas Vacation for the humor, but I love Miracle on 34th street as well;)

Our family loves Polar Express and Prep and Landing!

  6. My favorite Christmas movie is the original Miracle on 30th Street. My favorite animation movie is Cinderella.

  7. Personally my favorite is the old version of Miracle on 34th street. Growing up though, my dad insisted on the animated Grinch on Christmas Eve at bedtime, we even named our family dog Max like the Grinch.

My boys are addicted to Shrek, they love anything to do with the
Shreks. Finding Nemo and Rio are close behind too.

  8. I have a few favorites: Elf, the original Miracle on 34th Street, Love Actually, and the Nativity Story. šŸ™‚

  9. I always loved A Charlie Brown Christmas. My wife thinks it’s too slow for the kids to pay attention nowadays but it was always my favorite!!

  10. Home Alone and Home Alone 2 are favorites in our house. We always watch them when they air around Christmas time.

  11. Fav Christmas movie is still the classic Home Alone. We actually love all the recent Disney movies including the recent Big Hero 6

      1. I don’t know if it is appropriate for a 3 year old, to be honest. But we normally go with my 8 year old niece and she seems to enjoy it.

  12. I always loved Santa Claus – the one from the 80’s with Dudley Moore. John Lithgow is so great in that as the bad guy!
