One of my favorite holidays is Halloween. I’m not sure if that’s because it falls ten days after my birthday or all that comes with the holiday–the costumes, candy, jack-o-lanterns, decorations, and trick-or-treating. In fact, it might be my favorite holiday of all. (Although my sparsely decorated house this year gives off a different impression.)
While this year has been a bit crazy and I’ve had little time to prepare or decorate our house, we can’t wait for tomorrow when our girls dress in their TV show-inspired costumes (Supergirl and the Pink Power Ranger) and walk around our neighborhood hoping for treats. Lots and lots of treats!
In the meantime, I enjoy watching Halloween specials and movies. A couple of years ago, I listed some great Halloween programs for toddlers to watch, but why should they have all the fun? Here’s my list of 9 movies perfect for Halloween that you can find now on Netflix!
The Addams Family
They might be creepy and kooky, but this movie is perfection! Part of me aspires to be Morticia some day.
Based on the Washington Irving classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the movie follows Ichabod Crane as he tries to solve a series of murders committed by the Headless Horseman. Will he be the next victim?
A live adaptation of the classic cartoon from the 1970s and 80s, this movie is fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously!
As a kid, I loved watching the reruns of the TV show Bewitched. This movie captures a little of the magic with a different twist on it.
Two sisters. Both magical. Both with a curse where they men they love die. Maybe it’s time to fight the curse.
Barbaric and humorous, this dark humored musical will have you rooting for the murderous barber. Or not.
Some new neighbors have moved in and the current residents suspect them of murder. Now they intend to take things into their own hands. This humorous “horror” film stars Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, and even Corey Feldman.
A year after his murder, on Devil’s Night, a man comes back from the dead to seek vengeance on those who killed him and his fiancé.
From Dusk to Dawn
Two bank robbers on the run for Mexico, kidnap a family, then find themselves at a strip club that’s filled with vampires. This cult classic is nothing that you expect.
