Our Little Closer

Our Little Closer

I’m 42.

I have two little girls: one who is 3-years-old and the other 18-months.

And, I’m 8 weeks pregnant. We are expecting #3!

I’m beyond thrilled. My husband is happy, but as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Our Little Closer
I almost fell over in shock when I got the positive test. So much so, I took a 2nd one. At 42, I’m not “supposed” to be able to conceive a baby on the 2nd try.

We are referring to our newest addition as our Little Closer. Have I mentioned that we are huge baseball fans? The closer in baseball is the pitcher brought in by the leading team to end/close the game out with a win. This baby will be our last one; at least, that is the plan.

Today, we went to the doctor’s office for my first sonogram to see the baby. Little Closer was beautiful! It’s little heart was strong, beating at a fierce 164 beats per minute.

Our girls were with us for the appointment. Once we knew the baby was okay, we let them know that Mommy is going to have a baby. I told her that I had a baby in my belly. Soon after, Ginny decided she has a baby in her belly too.

Our Little Closer
Our Little Closer…or a frog? I’m pretty sure it isn’t a frog, right?

After the exam by my obstetrician, Ginny wanted an exam, too, to check on her baby. The doctor didn’t do an exam for her, which didn’t go over well with Ginny. So, I gave Ginny an “exam” checking on the baby. This seemed to satisfy her. Thank goodness!

While at the exam, I got the official due date on our baby, December 16. It seems so far away, but I know it will be here before we know it.

  1. The things you learn reading Peanuts: December 16 is Beethoven’s birthday. Well, according to Wikipedia, there’s no record of Beethoven’s actual birthday, but he was baptized on the 17th, and it was common in that time and place for babies to be baptized the day after their birth. So most scholars accept the 16th as his birthday.
So, if Little Closer actually makes his/her appearance on that date, you should welcome him/her with the “Ode to Joy”. 🙂
