Odd Things About Me

Odd Things About Me

I’m a sucker. I’m a sucker for every little survey or quiz found on Facebook. Resist? Never. Resistance is futile (yes, I’m a geek). I want to know who should be my best friends for life and where I should live for the rest of my life. These are all-important, life-altering decisions! It helps to have an unbiased source in my decision-making. I’m positive that my favorite color and my favorite animal will tell me if I can survive the zombie apocalypse.   In the last couple of days, I’ve seen friends posting answers to a list of questions. I tried

It’s been pure craziness for the last 24 hours (or so) in my house. I heard that lice made life hell for parents, but I had no idea until now. I’m still not done laundering EVERYTHING. Wow!  Between the lice and the Republican National Convention, it’s been an interesting week. I love that I can escape the madness on Facebook though. Finding the funny can be hard in tough times, but, usually, someone on Facebook is able to make me laugh. Okay, lots of someones. (Is that a word? I doubt it.) Thank goodness! I hope these funny Facebook posts bring

Call Me Dee

Call Me Dee

If you ask my parents why they named me Denise, they will say, “We thought it was a pretty name.” And that’s how I got my name. I wasn’t named after a celebrity or anyone they knew. (Well, my mom’s roommate in college was Denise, but I wasn’t named after her, so my mother says.) My parents just liked how my name sounded. When people ask about my name, I have no story to tell.  My nickname is another matter.  As a baby, my parents addressed me by my proper name. Unlike my three girls, each given a nickname soon

Between soccer, playdates, Kindergarten registration, and thunderstorms, it has been a busy week in my world. Having three kids keeps me busy. Having three kids who need to go places makes life a bit insane. Is it too late to reconsider this parenthood thing?  While I do question parenthood sometimes, I would never trade it for the world. After all, my kids give me lots of material to write. Okay, not really (well, yeah, kind of). I do love my three girls. They make life interesting, fun, and  frustrating. When I need to escape the insanity, I go to Facebook

10 Awesome Summer Movies

10 Awesome Summer Movies

Disclosure: I’m a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam which means that they pay for the streaming service in exchange for me posting once a month about the service. All opinions are my own.  Mid-July. Hot. Humid.  Miserable. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate summer weather? I’m sure I have. Thank goodness for Willis Carrier, who invented air-conditioning in 1902. He was a brilliant man who helped make summer more bearable.  Granted, this does not mean I can get out of spending time outside. With three little girls, spending most of my summer outside is a requirement, what with

Well, crud. After the events of last night, I’m having a hard time smiling. I can’t stop thinking about those police officers who were executed by snipers out to kill cops. My heart hurts. When will the killing end? Yesterday I wrote about how I perceived the incidents involving Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Last night shocked the hell out of me. Why? Why? Why?  As hard as it is to smile today, I want to help others smile. I hope these funny posts from Facebook help. I know that’s one of the many reasons I love Facebook. Going through my feed

Enough is Enough

This morning as I scrolled through trending topics on Facebook, I saw a name attached to a hashtag. Silently I said to myself, “Oh no. Not another one.” For it seems that anytime a person dies in a violent act, their name includes a hashtag. And now, two days in a row, I’ve seen two names with hashtags, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, both black men shot to death by police officers. Normally, on this blog, I avoid writing about politics, race, and religion. It’s not that I don’t hold an opinion. I do. In fact, I state my opinion clearly

The Perfect Anniversary Gift

When I imagined getting married, many eons ago, I alway thought I’d marry in the fall, more specifically, October. Both sets of grandparents (the 10th and 12th), one set of great-grandparents (the 6th), and even my parents (the 19th) married in October. I would continue the family tradition. However, when it came down to it, I married my husband, Chris, in the summer. It seemed best considering I was moving from Florida to Illinois to marry Chris. Selecting a date to marry was made easy by the priest. He let us know that only two dates were still available on

This morning I’m having a rough time. Why? Well, the baby woke me at 4:24 to nurse, then, once done, she refused to go back to sleep. Then, my three-year-old, Grace, got up at 4:45. When I told her to go back to sleep, she whined, “But, Mommy, I not tired.” At least I was able to shoo her to her room as I got out of bed. Then, I threw my hair into a pony tail, put on my yoga pants for the day, and took the baby with me so she wouldn’t keep my husband awake who just

19 Ideas for Enjoying “Me Time”

19 Ideas for Enjoying “Me Time”

Disclosure: I’m a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam which means that they pay for the streaming service in exchange for me posting once a month about the service. All opinions are my own.  Let me let you in on a little secret. Once you become a stay-at-home parent, you lose something precious you probably didn’t value enough. No, not money (although you do lose some of that). No, not sex with your partner, although that may happen less often. Who has energy for that after several days with little sleep? You lose “me time,” those quiet moments where you can
