Sunday Summary 12/8/2013

After a week of traveling and spending time with family, it was good to be home this week. My week was fairly quiet for a change, thank goodness. On Monday, my husband returned to work, for only 3 days. Then, on Thursday, DH and I spent our morning and afternoon cleaning and picking up around the house. I wanted everything clean before we pulled out the Christmas decorations. With that done, we were able to put up our tree and other decorations on our fireplace mantel during nap time.

Part of me is a little sad this year. Our decorations are quite minimal. We are doing that so our objects last. Toddler #2 gets into EVERYTHING! No joke. And, since she is tall, it is quite easy for her to destroy anything in her path. In order to protect future Christmas memories, we decided only to decorate areas that she would be unable to reach. Smart, right? But, still, it makes me sad not having as much as usual up. However, it is worth it in the end. Besides, my girls don’t know any different. I think we did okay because every morning, Ginny (Toddler #1) runs into the room and exclaims, “It’s beautiful. Oh, it’s so beautiful, Mommy,” as she looks around the room.

Beyond decorating, I sat down one day early in the week to plan out the Christmas cookies and candies I intended to make this year. Last year, I didn’t make much; mainly because I had just given birth to Grace in early November. This year, I want to bake a lot more. I know my girls won’t eat much of what I’m making, but I want to help create the memories that will stay with them over time. The knowledge that their mommy did this for them every year, sharing a memory I have of my mom. After much planning, I decided I will make 3 candies (peanut brittle, divinity, and pralines) and 5 cookies (white chocolate macadamia, oatmeal raisin, oatmeal chocolate chip, Mexican wedding cookies, and sugar cookies). So far, I’ve made the brittle and macadamia cookies. So, 2 down, 5 more to go. I’m sure the people at the NWS office will be thrilled since I’m sending some of each back to work with my husband.

Posts I Made This Week

Wednesday: I started my inaugural holiday gift guide series with shopping suggestions for her.

Friday: Wednesday night I went to Moms’ Night Out. We visited with each other and participated in a Favorite Things Party.

Saturday: Sweet Saturday made a return with my mom’s peanut brittle recipe.

Blogs of the Week

I hate to say it, but I have nothing to share this week. ๐Ÿ™ I didn’t do as much reading this week. Hopefully I will have some to share next week.

Coming Soon

Part of the reason I have little to share is because I’ve been quite busy with writing up holiday gift guides. In fact, one of them is a guest post that will be published on Wednesday over at A Boy, A Girl, and the Marine Corps! Please, please, please read it! Later in the week, I will post a holiday gift guide for him. Additionally, I have a new recipe I will be sharing with you.

What Christmas baking do you have planned this year?

  1. This sounds nice. At least you all had some decorations. We aren’t putting up any. We literally don’t have an extra dime to spend on it. We don’t have ones that we’ve had from previous years either since we are only married a little under 3 years now. We know we will accumulate things over the years. For now we are just so happy that we have each other and a nice meal. ๐Ÿ™‚
Brittnei recently posted…Feature Friday- Week 4

    1. I understand not having much. For years all I had was a small tree my parents gave me while in college and a string of lights. Every year I would buy myself an ornament. When my husband and I got married we each had accumulated quite a bit when single and merged it all. One of the benefits to being single for a LONG time I guess. LOL! Anyhow, a nice meal and each other is one of the best parts. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚
