My long time followers probably saw the title of this post and thought, what the heck? Denise doesn’t like chocolate. True enough, I don’t. In fact, I could live a happy existence without ever seeing or tasting chocolate ever again (well, except for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I love those!). However, I’m married to a man who adores chocolate and gave birth to a chocoholic, my oldest daughter Ginny. Heck, even my middle daughter, who used to shun chocolate, wants to eat it now. Poor Chris suffers because I don’t like chocolate. I rarely bake anything with chocolate (I hate cooking
It has been long-established in my family and among my friends that I don’t like chocolate. Heck, I’ve never really liked chocolate since I was a baby. It seems that my youngest, Grace, takes after me. That said, over the years I have found a few chocolates I do like. I’ve also realized it isn’t so much the chocolate I like. Nope, it is the filling. If the chocolate candy has more of something else than chocolate, I tend to like it. For that reason, my favorite chocolate candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I adore peanut butter, so it is the perfect
Growing up, I always looked forward to Thanksgiving for one main reason, eating my Grandma Scott’s pecan pie! We only had the pie once a year back then, at Christmas time. I remember joking with my parents as we “fought” over the last piece of pie. Dad would then say, “You know, I made a big mistake. I convinced you to try the pie in the first place.” I guess you can say it was love at first bite. To this day, I still love the pie, but I bake it instead of my grandma who passed away in 2001.
While I have shared many recipes on this blog and cook even more often at home, I have a cooking confession to make. Making my own pie crust scares me to death. If you’ve seen my recipes for Caramel Apple Pie or Strawberry Tart, you might have noticed that I used premade pie crust. I’ve used premade crust for the last 20+ years because I’m afraid to make crust. I was around 18 years old the last time I attempted to make a pie crust. I failed. It was awful. Every attempt to roll out the crust resulted in a mess.
I love dessert! I would make it more often if I had the time, though I have resolved to try to make a sweet at least once a week. Maybe that will stop me from gorging on candy that I pick up randomly on shopping trips. So, so bad. I prefer a sweet dessert with substance to a box of Sour Patch Kids. When I saw a quick and easy recipe like this one for Apple Pie Bites on Pinterest, I was intrigued. Would it taste as good as it looked? Was quick and easy possible with a dessert? I
