Top Ten Netflix Streams in 2017

Top Ten Netflix Streams in 2017

It’s hard to believe that 2017 comes to an end tomorrow night. Yet another year ends and another begins. For some of us, it means time to reflect on the past year while anticipating a great new year.

I don’t know about you, but this year has been tough. It’s part of the reason I love escaping to binge new shows or rewatch old ones or even check out a movie or two on Netflix. Instead of reflecting on an awful year, I’d rather reflect on the great shows my family and I watched this year! We’ll start with the top ten shows I binged on Netflix.

10. Longmire

While I like this show, I watch it in slow batches. It takes place in a small town in Wyoming with Sheriff Longmire at the helm. This show is based on a series of mystery books by Craig Johnson.

9. The Defenders

Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the Iron Fist investigate strange events and eventually run into each other and work together to fight crime. I enjoyed this series, mainly because I needed a new Jessica Jones fix. She is the best!

8. Colony

In an alternative realty, the world is occupied by others. The show never reveals who did the occupying, but you know they have ships in space. In occupied Los Angeles, life is great for those in favor of the occupiers, but for the rest, it is a daily struggle resulting in smuggling and other nefarious activities. The show focuses on Will, a former FBI agent trying to hide his identity, and his family.

7. Arrow

I’ve had mixed feelings about this show. I like it but I take breaks. I finally caught up on all the shows on Netflix this year. If you like a darker superhero show, this is the one for you.

6. Supernatural

Trying to finish 12 seasons was a challenge! And, I still have 2 seasons to go. I take this show in spurts as well, probably because it is dark just like Arrow. It follows Dean and Sam Winchester, brothers, who battle supernatural forces to protect the world.

5. Travelers

I love Sci-Fi movies and alternative realities. This one has a little of both. In a dismal future,  surviving humans figure out how to send a consciousness back in time and into the body of a person about to die. Teams are sent back to change some events to help create a better future. But what happens when things go wrong?

4. Riverdale

After hearing friends talking about this show, I decided to give this show a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Riverdale focuses on all the favorites from the comics: Archie, Jughead, Veronica, Betty, and more. Beyond that, it is nothing like the comics taking a dark turn at the beginning after a teenager goes missing.

3. The Blacklist

As Elizabeth “Liz” Keen, a rookie FBI profiler, heads out the door for her first day of work, she is surprised to find an influx of agents there to take her to work. It seems that a high-profile fugitive, Raymond “Red” Reddington, turned himself in and insists on only talking to Liz.

2. Haven

I finished this series in record time. Haven, Maine is unlike most times. In Haven, there are people who have “troubles.” These special abilities (troubles) can cause havoc in the town of Haven. Luckily, FBI agent Audrey Parker arrives in town and discovers she has a special talent for identifying how to help the troubled.

1. Stranger Things

This show is unlike any other I’ve watched. It’s funny, scary, and mysterious while taking you back to the 80s. Last year, I watched the first season and was hooked immediately. This year when season two came out, I was just as hooked.

Runners-Up

There were a few shows I started and didn’t finish even the first season, but they are good! Part of my problem with streaming the shows is the content requires night viewing away from little eyes. Here are a few I’m still watching and highly recommend: Mindhunters, The Keepers, Luke Cage, and Santa Clarita Diet.

As for my girls, they love Netflix, too! We’ve watched a few shows this year (The Beat Bugs, Veggie Tales in the City, Supergirl, and The Flash plus a few others) but have watched some great family films together. Here is a short list of the movies we streamed as a family:

1. Finding Dory

2. E. T.: The Extra-Terrestrial

3. Moana

4. The Secret Life of Pets

5. Trolls

6. Beauty and the Beast

7. Sky High

8. Sing!

9. The Rugrats Movie

10. Zootopia

What did you stream this year, with your family or just yourself?
